The Edwards family, Jason, Rebecca, Liam, Abigail, and Emily have happily lived in a YourPlace Housing property since 2010.
Jason is confined to a wheelchair due to chronic kidney disease which has caused him to develop osteoporosis. Whilst the property is not ideal for someone permanently in a wheelchair (compared to today’s standards) Jason has learnt to navigate around the house. Over the last 11 years the family have become embedded in the community and the house has become a haven and comfort zone and where together they have built many memories.
Jason is huge Liverpool FC fan, and his favorite players are Robbie Fowler and Stephen Gerrard. He enjoys going fishing and relaxing by the water. He calls it his ‘happy place’. His best catch was a 40cm kingfish, but he says the one that got away was a shark!
Rebecca is the family movie buff. She enjoys all the Marvel movies and is slowly educating Jason about all things in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When not engrossed in the latest movie, Rebecca has been busily studying a Certificate 4 in Disability.
During the last 18 months the family, like many, had a tough time. Given Jason’s compromised immune system he was restricted to the house and Rebecca become the family Uber getting the kids to and from school and Tafe.
The kids enjoy anime and Pokémon. Liam is studying social work at university and Abigail has found a passion for carpentry and has built an impressive timber kennel for the family dogs -Rocky and Poddle. The dogs haven’t been introduced to their new home yet but given Abigail’s workmanship they’re sure to love it. Emily is still attending school and isn’t sure what career she wants to pursue. For now, she loves music, particularly the latest releases. Not surprisingly Jason isn’t a fan of popular music. Don’t worry, we get it! It’s a generational thing – Jason the Baby Boomer versus Emily the Gen Z.
