I can’t believe we are nearly at the end of 2024 – the year has just flown by, and that is a good indication that we have been busy!
One key milestone we’ve recently met is our recertification under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Providing specialised housing to a proportion of our tenants is a really important part of what we do, and this certification sits beside our registration under the National Community Regulatory System for Community Housing.
We have also continued to explore ways that we can connect with tenants and other people who have experience living in social housing, to help us improve our property design and services. Last newsletter, I mentioned the Tenant Scrutineer program, and recently we set-up a Design Advisory Panel to help us with designs for a proposed inner-city redevelopment. Keep an eye out via future newsletters or speak to your Tenancy Officer for opportunities to be involved if you are interested.
Our biennial tenant survey will take place again early next year, so please look out for your survey and make sure you contribute to have your say – all feedback is valuable and we always endeavour to respond to any concerns you raise.
We have been fortunate to also welcome some new staff members – Cheryl, Michelle and Sue – after operating with reduced staff for much of this year. We are so happy to have them on board, and I’m sure many of you will get an opportunity to speak to or meet them in the coming months.
I’m told by the team that I always focus a bit too much on property development, but I did want to let you know some good news – we are nearly finished with five properties in Valley View, and have started construction on another three in Mount Barker, with three more projects about to start.
By the time you get this newsletter we will be heading into another hot Adelaide summer. For those of you who aren’t aware, if you don’t already have an air-conditioner and are happy to pay a $5 per week Additional Services Levy, YourPlace Housing can install one in your home. We will also maintain and replace the unit if required, although we do ask that you regularly clean the filter.
As we move into the festive season, I hope you all get the chance to unwind, celebrate with loved ones, and take a moment to reflect on the year and look ahead to the opportunities that the New Year will bring.
All the very best!
