Your Rights
As a tenant of YourPlace Housing you have the right to:
- fair and non-discriminatory treatment
- be treated with respect regardless of cultural identity, race, gender, sexual orientation or age
- the protection of the Residential Tenancies Act
- confidentiality and privacy of your personal information unless your permission is given to share information, or we are required by law to do so
- access your own files in accordance with YourPlace Housing Privacy Policy
- safe, secure and appropriate housing
- security of tenure in line with your tenancy agreement
- expect that your property is well-maintained
- the peaceful enjoyment of your home
- security of tenure within the constraints of funding and program guidelines
- have policies and procedures applied to your situation fairly and consistently
- be supported to complain or appeal without being penalised if you do not agree with actions taken or decisions made by YourPlace Housing
- use an advocate
- have a say in the way we deliver services and manage your tenancy
Your Responsibilities
As a tenant of YourPlace Housing we expect you to:
- pay rent and all other charges on time – call us straight away if you get into difficulty with payments
- keep your house clean and tidy and treat it with care
- keep your garden mowed, weeded and free of rubbish
- ask for permission to keep a pet before you bring it home
- talk to us before you make any alterations or additions to the property
- tell us about any changes in your household income or if your circumstances change
- report repairs and maintenance required to the property as soon as possible
- read letters or notices from YourPlace Housing , and respond promptly to any actions you are required to undertake – call us if there is anything you don’t understand
- treat YourPlace Housing staff and contractors with courtesy and respect
- be a good neighbour – always respect the right of your neighbours to live in peace and comfort
- ensure that you and your visitors do not subject your neighbours to verbal abuse, harassment, aggressive behaviours, violence or threats of violence
- show respect and cooperation in common areas if you live in a unit block or complex
- do not store personal items in the common areas in your block
- pay for repairs caused by the neglect, misuse, willful or accidental damage by you or your visitors
- ensure that you and your visitors do not use the property for any illegal purpose
- ensure all your visitors understand and respect your responsibilities
