FAQs for Tenants

1. What is happening? Collapse

Exciting news! YourPlace Housing and Unity Housing have agreed to merge to form a single organisation. YourPlace became part of Unity on 1st June 2026. This means Unity became your housing provider, while your tenancy continues.

2. Why is this merger happening? Expand

The merger will create a stronger organisation with more capacity to manage homes, support tenants and invest in the future. It allows specialist disability housing services to be delivered within a larger, more stable organisation.

3. Will I keep the same home? Expand

Yes. Your existing lease terms and conditions will not change because of the merger. You will continue living in the same property under those lease terms.

4. Will my rent change because of the merger? Expand

No. Your rent will not change because of the merger itself. Normal rent reviews will continue to occur in line with existing rules and processes, with the next one to come into effect from 6th July 2026.

You should have recently received a separate rent review letter from us. If you have not received this letter, please contact our office so we can help. The rent review will go ahead as planned, so please make sure you read that letter and provide us with any relevant information.

5. How will payments work after the merger? Expand

Before the merger takes place, we will contact you well in advance to explain any new payment arrangements. This may include changes to payment methods or account details. We will make sure you understand what is changing and what, if anything, you need to do.

6. Will my lease or tenancy rights change? Expand

No. Your lease and tenancy rights will continue. The merger does not reduce your rights or security as a tenant.

7. I am currently paying off a debt. Will that continue with Unity? Expand

Yes. Any debts you have to YourPlace will transfer across to Unity as they are at the date of merger.

8. Will I receive information about becoming a Unity tenant? Expand

Yes. Before the change, you will receive welcome information from Unity. This will explain how Unity works, how to contact them, and what support is available.

9. What if I do not want to become a tenant of Unity? Expand

As part of the merger, all YourPlace tenancies will transfer to Unity. This is not optional. We believe the merger will bring benefits for tenants, including stronger systems and support. If you have concerns, you are encouraged to contact us so we can discuss them and provide support

10. Will repairs and maintenance change? Expand

In the short term, repairs and maintenance will continue as they do now. YourPlace Housing remains your landlord, housing services will continue as normal. For repairs, questions or support, you should keep contacting YourPlace Housing until notified otherwise.

Over time, some processes may change as systems are integrated. If any changes affect you, we will contact you and explain what this means.

11. Do I need to do anything now? Expand

No. You do not need to take any action right now.

Our Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funded tenants can expect some additional information from us that is specific to your accommodation agreements.

Please look out for your 'Welcome to Unity Housing' pack that should arrive to you on or after Wednesday 29th April. This pack will contain all the information you will need about how to contact Unity, payment options, and lots more. If you don’t receive your pack by Wednesday 6th May, please contact us.

12. What has changed? Expand

After the merger, some administrative arrangements may change, such as rent payment details or who your landlord is. If this happens, we will explain everything clearly and give you plenty of notice before any change takes effect.
